Our physical therapy specialists are trained to thoroughly assess patients and administer rehabilitative techniques to determine realistic goals for each individual. These techniques may include gait training, evaluation for equipment, pain control, exercise programs, muscle strengthening, or instruction in the use of prosthetic devices. Physical therapy patients are also given a home exercise routine to follow in order to achieve the best results and quickest recovery.
Speech therapy consists of treatment programs designed specifically to assist patients suffering from a communication problem due to illness or injury. Our speech pathologists also offer hearing tests and specialized training for patients with problems swallowing.
These rehabilitative activities are designed to increase the patient’s ability to carry out normal, day-to-day activities, such as feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, and performing household tasks. Occupational therapists also construct adaptive equipment, evaluate homes for architectural barriers, and provide helpful energy conservation and work simplification techniques.
The Home Health Aide service is supervised by a skilled nurse and is dependent upon the patient’s individual needs. Home Health aide services are typically provided one to three times per week, with frequency decreasing as the patient’s condition improves. Services provided include: partial to complete bathing, showering assistance, oral hygiene, hair care, shaving, nail care, skin care, light laundry, dressing assistance, assistance with walking or simple exercise programs approved by the nurse, catheter care, monitoring of vital signs, essential errands, and simple meal preparation. Our aides are committed to making sure patients are safe and as comfortable as possible in their homes.

Hospice is not a place of treatment, but a concept of care that is recognized as the model of quality, compassionate health-care delivery for people facing life-limiting illness.
Hospice care utilizes an interdisciplinary team of health-care professionals and trained volunteers that address symptom control, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support, expressly tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes.
Support, caregiver training, and grief counseling are available for the patient’s family and loved ones, and bereavement services are available for a year following the death of a patient. While most hospice services are provided in the home, care is also available in most skilled nursing facilities and residential care settings.
Hospice allows illness to follow its natural course. The focus is on caring, not curing. At the center of hospice is the belief that each of us should be able to die pain free and with dignity, and that our families should receive the necessary support to allow us to do so.
While many insurance companies require that a terminally ill patient have a prognosis of six months or less, there is not a six-month limit to Gunnison Valley hospice care services. A patient in the final phase of life may receive hospice care for as long as necessary when a physician certifies that he or she continues to meet eligibility requirements.
Hospice services are covered under Medicare, Medicaid, most private insurance plans, HMOs, and managed care organizations. In general, coverage includes:
This service is designed for patients requiring help to remain safely at home, but who do not meet the criteria for other home care programs and whose care is generally self-paid or donation funded. The program is negotiated on an individual basis to meet the greatest needs of the recipient and may include:
There are several contracted programs available to assist with payment for these services. Please call us at 435-528-3955 to determine the best possible program for your needs. At Gunnison Valley Home Care, the patient comes first in all we do.
