Pharmacy Receptionist-PRN

JOB SUMMARY

Our Pharmacy Receptionist is responsible for the administrative duties involved with bookkeeping, file management, office organization as well as coordinating patient medication delivery. We believe that patients should be treated as people rather than numbers in a file, and who understands the value of compassionate service. The Pharmacy Receptionist will also act as an advocate for hospital programs and adheres’ to the hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Motto of “The Patient is First in All We Do”.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Answer multi-line phones and either direct the caller to the appropriate party or handle the caller's needs yourself
  • Greet patients upon arrival, obtain insurance information and any other necessary data and dispense filled medication
  • Provide patients with intake and new patient forms as well as copies of our office policies and legally required documents
  • Process payments for patients’ co-pays or purchases of over the counter items
  • Ensure records are kept and maintained for patients, medication, equipment, and invoices as directed by State, Federal, and Hospital policy.
  • Cleans equipment, work space and sterilizes counting tray, glassware according to latest recommended guidelines or Hospital Policy.
  • Assists in the daily cleaning of the pharmacy.
  • Assists with special projects, as directed by Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Manager.
  • Assist in the creation and development of special programs. Including, but not limited to health fairs, and flu shot clinics.
  • Maintain strict confidentially regarding competitive advantage/strategic planning of all GVH projects.
  • Demonstrates a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create a team atmosphere conducive to self-improvement and agency growth. Performs other duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, participating in specialty teams and GVH programs.
  • Demonstrates patience and tact when dealing with patients, family and other staff members, conveying a sense of caring and dignity.
  • Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and moral integrity, acting as self-starter who works independently and who consistently finds ways to improve their own job and hospital operations as part of the health care team.
  • Must embrace and exemplify (GVH) core values, mission, and vision when interacting with patients, customers, co-workers, pharmacy manager, and other GVH staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for knowing GVH policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Must comply with HIPPA and keep all patient information confidential.
  • Must complete all Relias, OSHA, BLS Trainings as required by State, Federal, and Hospital Policy.
  • Must complete annual TB questionnaire and receive vaccinations as mandated by State, Federal, and Hospital Policy. Including but limited to Flu and COVID vaccinations.
  • Call patients to remind them of medications ready to be picked up or upcoming medications due to be refilled
  • Provide patients with support and guidance as needed
  • Provides basic pharmacy patient interaction by collecting patient and insurance information including prescription history
  • Teamwork and respect for co-workers is required.  A customer-service attitude toward patients, other employees and outside organizations is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • 1+ years' experience in pharmacy/medical field (preferred)
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks based on importance
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to carry, climb, hear/listen, lift, reach and manipulate objects, tools, or equipment, push/pull, see, speak, squat/kneel, stand, and walk.  Position requires moving materials weighing 10 – 20 pounds, and 25 – 50 pounds on an occasional basis.  Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 80% of the work period.  Work involves the potential for exposure to infection.  The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
